From the Founder's Desk
Hi, I am Debaleena Biswas, the founder of 'Saha'. Like all of us, I wear different hats but first and foremost, I am a mother. Although I don't believe in adopting the social identities that are bestowed upon us in the form of relationships, education, gender, the positions that we hold, et cetera, motherhood is different for me. Because motherhood is 'the thing' that helped me challenge all other superfluous identities that I held onto dearly!
The captivating journey of my motherhood propelled me to establish what you are seeing here, in the form of 'Saha'.
I left my super busy, fast, corporate career to pursue motherhood with intention and purpose and when I did so, I realized at every turn, that we are living in chaotic times and that chaos is affecting even the littlest ones. Although, this was not the first time I felt numb at how the commercialized and materialistic world worked, this was definitely the first time I felt the need to do something. The first time was when I understood how marketing worked or rather, how marketing evolved into a practice of driving people into overconsumption of wrong materials at the cost of the health of people and planet. This time I figured that my child was going to be a victim of the same if I did not change something!
As I delved deeper, I understood that parents are making wrong choices not just with respect to the physical health of their children, but also concerning the internal developmental journeys of their children. I understood this after having made certain mistakes myself like buying tons of flashcards for my toddler instead of investing in sensory toys; I also explored various instruction-based learning activities instead of exposing my child to child-led, open-ended toys!
The more I read about how development occurs in young children and how best we can intervene, the better I understood the predicament of all parents, like me, who, with the best intentions, took counter-productive actions by investing in toys, clothes, and other items for their children.
That's when 'Saha' was conceptualized.
'Saha' is for parents who want to support their children through their growing years holistically and authentically, so that their children grow into positively contributing members of society. 'Saha' is for parents who believe in keeping childhood simple and pristine. 'Saha' is for parents who want to keep learning as they progress through their parenting journeys.
I want you to understand that 'Saha' is a product of my never-ending quest to help parents and children grow into self-actualized individuals. The journey starts with creating awareness among parents and nurturing the senses of their children by creating a rich and beautiful physical environment. My first attempt at this was creating my blog www.debaleenabiswas.com, where I have written close to 100 blog posts about child development, parenting, and related topics in the last three years.
