Buy across two size ranges from the start, not one. Newborns grow fast enough in the first three months that a wardrobe sized only for "newborn" is often outgrown before it's been worn more than a handful of times.

The swaddle is one size and adjusts by how it's wrapped, not by age, so it isn't part of the sizing question above.
